Dorie Barton is a busy actress living and working in Los Angeles. Born into an Army family, Dorie moved around the country many times as a child, and found a home in the Theatre wherever she lived. After high school in Washington D.C., Dorie moved to Los Angeles (sight unseen!), to attend the prestigious art conservatory, California Institute of the Arts. While getting her BFA in Acting, she studied all aspects of performing arts, for both film and theatre, with many highly regarded teachers, her favorite of which was Peter Sellars, the world-renowned director. During her time at CalArts she also had the opportunity to travel and work in Europe, performing a Witkiewicz play in several different venues, including the playwright's home theatre in Poland. Upon graduating, she soon landed her first job, moving to New York, then back to Los Angeles.
Since then Dorie has been seen in myriad television shows, as both a series regular, in "Stark Raving Mad" with Tony Shaloub and Neil Patrick Harris, and recurring roles in "I'm With Her", "The In-Laws", etc., as well as many memorable guest-starring parts in shows including "CSI, and "Angel". She has starred in several television films, her most prominent being her work as the young Martha Stewart, in NBC's biopic, "Martha, Inc.". Film work has ranged from independent films, to some of the Hollywood's biggest hits such as "Meet the Fokkers", and "Down With Love", etc. Dorie has proudly performed onstage with some of Los Angeles' best theatre companies including Buffalo Nights, Theatre of Note, and the Evidence Room (frequently called in the press "L.A.'s hippest theatre".) Among Dorie's favorite onstage roles are Paulinka in Tony Kushner's "A Bright Room Called Day", Toni, a character based on Samantha Fox, in David Edgar's "Pentacost", and in Charles' Busch's hilarious "Die! Mommie! Die!", in which she created the much-loved role of Edith Sussman. Dorie can also be heard several times daily, lending her lovely voice to various television and radio ad campaigns.
Lately, Dorie has been expanding her life as an artist by writing screenplays, the latest of which is a female thriller that mixes
classic noir elements into the underworld of a modern nighttime Los Angeles.
