The goal here was not to create another list of stereotypes. Latinas are hot, they dance, they’re passionate and emotional—how many times have you already read it and what’s the point of repeating it again and again even if it’s true?
My goal was to find the best Latin countries to find a wife—and to compile this list, I used completely different criteria. I compared the countries based on how fluent they are in English, how open they are for international marriages, how active the dating scene is, how safe the country is, and so on. So here, you’ll find a 100% unbiased and honest rating—and of course, some useful tips for successful and ethical dating
Our methodology
Here’s the list of criteria we used:
- Fluency in English
- Openness to international relationships
- Local dating culture
- Safety
- The cost of a trip to a country
- Top dating hubs
- Online dating popularity
The sources we used were: data gathering websites like Statista, government websites with crime statistics (to evaluate safety levels), studies and surveys of local residents (to evaluate the openness for international relationships and top dating hubs), discussions on Reddit and other websites, top lists and ratings made by experts.
Best Latin countries for serious relationships: Top 5 list
There is no #1 best Latin country to find a wife. It’s very subjective, different people have different goals and preferences, and while for some, the top country might be Brazil, for the others, it would be Mexico or Cuba. We can’t select a country that would be the best for all our readers—but we can select 5 countries that would work for the majority of them. Here are these countries: Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, and Venezuela.
Let’s expand on that.
Mexico—Best for those who need an affordable country, a relaxed lifestyle, and very kind women
Mexico has a low overall level of English proficiency but you should only worry about it if you’re going to live there for a long time—if you just want to find a wife from this country, you can focus on younger women from urban areas who have quite good English skills. They’re open to international dating, they have high intermarriage rates, and Mexico is the top Hispanic country regarding the number of K-1 fiance(e) visas, so it has the most mail order brides in the region.
The number of online dating app users in Mexico is growing, it’s going to hit 5.9 million users by 2029, but even today, there are more than 4,000,000 Mexicans on dating apps. If you want to meet Mexican singles interested in a serious relationship, apps like OFFER would be your #1 choice.
The top hubs for meeting them in person are Mexico City (the capital, the largest city, 8.8 million Mexicans live there) and Cancun (great nightlife, lots of attractions).
Tourist destinations like Mexico City and Cancun are pretty safe but there’s still a high rate of violent crime, so you should follow safety rules: don’t go out at night, stay in tourist-friendly areas, and keep cash out of sight.
A flight from New York to Mexico City would cost you $400-500. A 1-week trip to Mexico city might cost you $500-700 (budget-friendly traveling style) or $1,100-1,500 (mid-range restaurants and hotels, dates in restaurants, taxis instead of buses).
What to do and what not to do in Mexico?
- Respect traditions and religion
- Do not criticize their culture
- Learn Spanish basics
- Do not be disrespectful to her family
- The flight from New York to Mexico City is very affordable and takes around 6 hours which makes it easier to meet your long-distance partner
- Local women are pretty traditional when it comes to their views on gender roles and relationships
- The country is pretty affordable, local people are hospitable and very warm
- If you leave tourist places, you might face problems, the country isn’t that safe
- Only a few fluent English speakers
- Local women may be quite loud and too emotional sometimes
What do real people say about dating in the country?
Brazil—Best for those searching for the best beaches, low cost of life, and energetic women
The country has a low English proficiency level (81st out of 116 countries) and this language isn’t widely spoken in Brazil (but young people in Sao Paolo and other big cities speak better English). As for openness, Brazil is one of the top mail order bride countries and there’s no stigma towards international marriages there.
The online dating user penetration is 7.8% and around 18 million Brazilians are using dating apps in 2025. The most popular dating service is Tinder but specialized dating apps for serious relationships (like OFFER) are popular, too.
There are three top cities where you can meet local women: Rio de Janeiro (perfect relaxed beach energy and perfect nightlife), Sao Paulo (the most cosmopolitan city in Brazil), and Fortaleza (great beaches, lots of social activities, friendly people).
Brazil isn’t the safest country in the region, but if you don’t leave tourist places and follow safety rules, you’ll be fine. One should also be careful about dating scams, especially the “pig butchering scam” where a scammer builds trust for months and then persuades the victim to invest in a fraudulent scheme. Of course, if someone asks you for money or tells you a story about crypto investments, it’s a red flag.
A flight from New York to Rio would cost you $700. If you’re a budget traveler, you’ll only need $500-600 for a week in the city, but if you prefer better hotels and mid-range restaurants, you’ll need at least $1,000 (plus $200-300 on dates).
- Do not compare Brazil to other countries, especially to Argentina
- Don’t use the OK sign (it has a different meaning in Brazil)
- Don’t be mad when they’re late, it’s kind of their national sport
- A beautiful country with perfect beaches
- Low cost of living, the country is quite affordable
- Local women are very hospitable and open-minded
- Low level of English proficiency
- The country isn’t 100% safe for tourists
- If you’re going to stay there as an expat, you’ll probably not enjoy their complex bureaucracy, widespread corruption, and poor infrastructure

Colombia—Best for those searching for family-centered Latino women
Colombia is slightly better than Brazil and Mexico in terms of English proficiency, but the index is still pretty low. The good news is that there’s a lot of fluent English speakers in Bogota and Medellin. Colombian society is very tolerant and open-minded, and local women are highly open to international dating.
The dating app penetration rate is quite high here (5%) and it’s still growing. Locals use dating apps actively both for casual relationships (apps like Tinder) and for serious relationships (apps like OFFER).
If you want to enjoy meeting locals in Colombia, focus on these 3 cities: Cartagena (great nightlife), Bogota (very welcoming and hospitable atmosphere, lots of attractions), and Medellin (friendly people, safe neighbourhoods, a legendary nightlife with lots of night clubs)
Colombia is not as dangerous today as it was 20 years ago, but it’s still not a perfectly safe country for tourists. Be careful—if a local person asks you for money or tells you a scheme that would require your investments, it’s certainly a dating scam. Do not send them money, meet publicly, and you’ll be ok.
A flight from NYC to Bogota costs $500, a hotel room costs $20-40 per night, and you’ll also need to pay around $10/day for food, $10/day for transportation, and $20-50/day for dates.
- Do not ignore your partner’s family opinions and do not say anything bad about their family
- Do not flirt with other women, Colombians can be quite jealous
- Show respect to their culture and religion
- At least 3 top cities for meeting local women
- Very friendly and open people, 0 stigma towards international relationships
- Strong family ties, family members tend to support each other
- The country is still quite dangerous
- Low English fluency
- If you’re going to live in Colombia, be ready for low-paying jobs and poor quality of banking services

Dominican Republic—Best for those who prefer countries with relaxed atmosphere and rich traditions
The Dominican Republic has a moderate English proficiency index and English is widely spoken in the country, especially in tourist areas. Their culture is joyful and energetic, they’re optimistic and fun, and they love foreigners—not surprising for such a popular tourist destination. So they tend to be welcoming and open to intermarriages, but just like with other countries on the list, it depends on how conservative the family of a woman is.
The user penetration isn’t that high (3.7%) but a lot of local women who actually use dating sites prefer niche websites for serious relationships, such as OFFER—women who use such platforms typically speak fluent English and are focused on committed, meaningful relationships.
If you want to meet them in person, Punta Cana and Santo Domingo are the cities you can’t miss. Punta Cana is a very popular tourist destination with great beach parties and Santo Domingo offers a more diverse nightlife experience with a very wide selection of social events, bars, and night clubs.
Some cities such as Boca Chica and Azua have a very high crime rate, but if you focus on Santo Domingo and Punta Cana, you can feel safe here. But still, follow these safety tips: avoid displays of wealth, don’t travel alone at night, meet only in public places, and use only the most trusted dating apps in order to not get scammed. And if someone on a dating site asks you for money or offers to invest in crypto, they are 100% scammers.
A flight from NYC to Santo Domingo would cost you around $400. A hotel room can cost as low as $40/night or as high as $100, depending on a season. You’ll also spend around $30 on food and transportation, and a date in a mid-range restaurant would cost you around $40-50.
- Respect the elders, especially the family of your wife
- Don’t offend their religion or traditions
- Learn at least basic Spanish
- Don’t do PDA if you are not in a big city—public displays of affection are still a taboo in rural areas and small towns
- Emotional warmth and festive vibe
- The country is incredibly beautiful
- It’s also quite affordable, especially during the low season
- Local women can be a bit jealous and loud sometimes
- If you’re going to live there, expect all the same problems other countries of the region have—corruption, poor quality of infrastructure, and bureaucracy
- Possible scams and theft (not too common in the tourist places, though)
What do real people say about dating in the country?
Venezuela—Best for meeting strong women for something really serious
It might be surprising but Venezuela, with all its problems and challenges, has the highest English proficiency index among the countries on this list. Locals are not only open and tolerant, they’re also very interested in immigration because of the economic crisis in the country, so the idea of building a relationship with a foreign man is often very attractive to them.
The dating app penetration rate in Venezuela isn’t that high due to the low quality of Internet infrastructure in the country and frequent outages. Those who are really interested in finding a partner tend to use international dating apps for serious relationships—for example, OFFER, a dating site with several thousands of Venezuelan users.
It’s not recommended for an American citizen to visit Venezuela because of severe safety risks. The country is collapsing, there’s a very high crime rate, they lack essential resources, and even if you visit Caracas and go to a bar there, approaching local women is definitely not recommended for an American tourist.
Venezuela is the most dangerous country to visit in South America especially for Americans—not only are the violent crime rates extremely high here, it also has the highest number of wrongfully detained US citizens in the world. If you meet a Venezuelan woman outside Venezuela, there’s still a risk of dating scam, but it’s not higher than in any other Hispanic country.
As for the cost, well, taking into account that it’s not recommended to visit Venezuela, we can assume that you’ll probably meet your Venezuelan girlfriend in Colombia, it’s the country where 2.8 million Venezuelans live. And you already know everything about the cost of a trip to Colombia—it’s $500 for the plane, $30/day for a hotel room, $20/day for food and transportation, and around $20 per day for dates.
The cultural don’ts are pretty similar to other countries: Don’t disrespect their country and traditions, don’t express negative opinions in public, and don’t put your feet on furniture.
- Women are traditional and religious
- A lot of them live in other countries so you won’t have to visit Venezuela
- Local women take dating very seriously, the majority of them are looking for a husband on dating apps
- Very poor quality of Internet infrastructure and infrastructure in general, power outages—all this can spoil your online dating experience
- It’s not safe to visit the country
- Some people say that locals are too materialistic sometimes

Where to meet a Latin wife?
You have two options—offline dating and online dating. Meeting them offline is definitely a fun experience and although it’s pretty expensive, it’s usually worth the money because even if you don’t find a wife there, you’ll have a great time in a beautiful country with awesome beaches (it doesn’t matter which country you choose, they all have awesome beaches). Online dating may be less fun but it’s much more efficient—you have a large dating pool that consists of thousands of single women, they speak English, and they’re looking for a serious relationship, so the success rate with online dating is much higher.
Checklist for your first trip
- Meet in public places only. South America isn’t the safest place in the world but meeting in a public place would make your first date a little safer.
- Plan your safety strategy. Get travel insurance that covers theft, save local embassy phone numbers, share your plans and maybe even your location with your friends.
- Learn the culture etiquette of the country you’re going to visit in order to avoid awkward situations.
- Learn basic Spanish or Portuguese if you’re going to Brazil. That’s how you’ll show respect, and it’ll also help you impress a potential partner on the date.
- Research entry requirements. Some countries, for instance, require a Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate, and if you’re going to Brazil, you’ll need to obtain an e-visa before departure.
Risks and how to avoid them
- Catfishing—it’s when scammers use pictures of other people to create a fake profile.
- Paid dates—it’s when scammers require a victim to pay them in order to set up a real-life date.
- Financial requests—it’s when they ask a victim for money directly.
- Blackmail.
What are the red flags? In most cases, they are very easy to spot:
To avoid those risks, you need to follow simple rules. First, never send money to people you’ve met online and don’t invest in their schemes. Second, do not send photos or videos that can be used to blackmail you. Third, only use the best and the most trusted dating apps.
- Read the user reviews, pay special attention to the ones that mention scam
- Test the site, google the photos of the women on this site (if you can find them on other websites, they’re fake)
- Chat with the women, take a look at their responses. Do they chat like real people? If they start love-bombing you and talk about marriage or moving to the US right away, it’s also a red flag, by the way.
How much you’ll spend on it?
| How much? | How to save money? |
|---|---|
| Flight | |
| From $400 (the Dominican Republic) to $1,000 (Brazil) | Book in advance, avoid peak seasons |
| Accommodation | |
| From $15 to $100 per day (the country doesn’t matter, there are hostels and fancy hotels in every South American country) | Airbnb could be a more affordable choice. And you can also travel during a low season, it’s cheaper |
| Mobile communication | |
| Around $10-$20 for a month | — |
| Translation services | |
| From $100 to $300 per day | Just use ChatGPT or any other AI-based tool, you’ll save up to 80% |
| Dates | |
| From $10 to $50 ($100 if you’re going to a really expensive restaurant like like Pujol or Rosa Negra in Mexico) | Focus on modest dates and affordable gifts |
| Visas | |
| $80 (Brazil) | — |
What about visas?
- First of all, US citizens can enter most South American countries for tourism for up to 180 days (90 days with a possibility to extend)
- However, you can apply for a digital nomad visa if you’re a remote worker—they have such an option in Colombia, it allows you to stay longer in the country
- If you’re going to visit Brazil or Bolivia, you’ll need to obtain a tourist visa first
- Some countries require a vaccination certificate
- If you get married to a South American woman, she won’t become a US citizen or resident automatically and you won’t become the resident/citizen of her country automatically. You’ll have to apply for it and wait for 6-18 months, depending on the country—check the official website of the US Department of State to make sure you have all the required documents
